After visiting Utah several times over the years, I finally made it to the Springville Museum of Art. It was amazing, and today I'm going to share a look at the 52nd annual quilt show, which occupies the whole ground floor.
There were quite a few with an America 250 or patriotic theme. This one (above) was done by Brittany Bowen Burton.
This artist, Christine Graham, used a scrap of a small flag she found on the ground at a cemetery as a jumping off point for her take on a traditional Sunbonnet Sue design. In her artist statement she lamented the "ragged fabric of our national dialogue." Woof.
Artist Rebecca Buchert did a quilt full of US flags, with symbolism that represented the changing demographics over the years and a Native American inspired fabric for the sashing in between the flags.
Artist Marlene Cook cleaned out a closet and found these hand embroidered states that she had done a couple decades prior, so she made them into a quilt!
Next category is plants. This made up a LOT of the motifs.

I love that the artist, Emily Weinheimer, and her mom finished a quilt that her grandma Carma began years earlier, and the vintage fabrics are top notch!
